How to: a summer bod that can (safely) go anwhere and do anything you want!

Happy Wednesday,

If you’re anything like me, your weekly screen report isn’t something you like to brag about. But it’s spring in Montana and the trails are dry so we’re turning off screens and getting outside after work, right!?

The reality though, is that many of us are held back by fear of injury that is actually dampening the excitement and stopping us from doing what we really want outside.

Fear of an injury in the immediate future is one of the single biggest deterrents keeping people from being as active as they might be otherwise.

And that’s totally fair.

You may have already had an experience where a small injury spiraled and knocked you down for an entire season.

Maybe you don’t know how to lift weights safely, or you’re worried your running form is off. Or maybe last bike season you started getting hamstring pain that still hasn’t fully recovered and you’re still not sure if you should be biking at all this year.

One of the most common reasons people end up in my office this time of year is from a sharp increase in activity level or intensity leading to an ‘overuse injury’ so you're not crazy if this sounds like you.

The reality though is that the rewards of getting more physically active clearly outweigh the risks for all but the most disciplined athletes among us.

But how do you do it safely when the seasons change so quickly in Montana?

Next Tuesday, I will be speaking about how to navigate this transition and build capacity to get the most out of your summer.

I will also talk about recovery and what tips and tricks you should be most focused on. There is so much out there from red light beds, to specialized recovery drinks, and creatine. It can be hard to know what to prioritize.

I’ll be doing a Q&A afterwards but if you want to help me out in the meantime, please reply to this email and let me know what training or recovery tricks you have been wondering about. I’ll use your questions to help shape this talk!

Come join me April 21st at 5:30 PM at The Sidecar. 317 N Cruse Ave. Helena, MT. 2nd Floor Community Space.

Hope to see you there!

Katy
